Monte Sano Art Festival is on Saturday September 9:00am-5: 00pm. It is coming up in less than 2 weeks! It has been my favorite festival for the past several years. It is in a beautiful park, and I have met so many supporters of art like you at the event. I hope I will meet more! And of course, it is great to see familiar faces. I will have recent rose paintings from the Wheedon House besides nature and downtown scenes, as well as my leaf studies in the “Frozen Puddle” series.

Downtown Huntsville
Watercolor 14″x10″
This watercolor painting of North Side Square in Downtown Huntsville is one of several I have done from the same reference photo. I was consumed with rainy Downtown scenes a few years ago, and went there whenever it rained. Light playing on the wet brick sidewalk was captivating and provided an intriguing technical and interpretive challenge. The first painting I did from the photo was almost photo realistic. I was not very happy with it and kept painting in different color palettes and paint strokes to create more atmosphere and to experiment with my own perception of the raw visual information in the photo. This is probably the most fluid among all of the paintings.
