Roses at the Weeden House

roses, garden, weedenhouse, huntsvillle AL, Downtown Huntsville, Watercolor, Painting

Newest addition to the current series of rose paintings. I worked from a reference photo I took entirely. I missed the smell of the roses and just being outside, but didn’t miss the allergy. Having the obligation to be at my studio in Lowe Mill and classes to teach, photos come convenient.

I liked how the photo came out and the composition, but simplified and even omitted some details.

Half plein air watercolor

These 12″x16″ watercolors were done half on the spot, half at studio with/without reference photos. I will use them as studies for larger pieces. 12″x16″ felt a bit too small to make good composition while painting comfortably. I am not used to work on small pieces.

The Weeden House Roses

This is my first attempt on using the technique I have learned from Yuko Nagayama into my own work. This piece has found a new home the day after I finished. What an encouragement! My next goal may be incorporating this technique into non-floral subjects.
